Job Description Job Description Upward Career Coach (Commercial
Services or South Retail) Position Overview The Upward Career Coach
supports employees of Goodwill Central Texas by promoting
engagement, retention, and long-term career advancement. This role
works directly with employees to identify and achieve
individualized education, training, and employment goals while
removing barriers to professional growth. Each Career Coach
supports approximately 65–100 employees and builds strong,
consistent relationships to help employees successfully navigate
their career pathways across all Goodwill divisions. This position
may be assigned to support one of the following areas: Commercial
Services Assignment Supports Commercial Services employees.
Requires travel to multiple locations throughout Williamson and
Travis Counties. Requires working several evenings per month. Due
to access to federal and state facilities, candidates must
successfully complete a comprehensive federal background
investigation, including fingerprinting, tax compliance
verification, and review of criminal, credit, and employment
history. South Retail Assignment Supports retail team members in
the south region. Based out of the GRC located at 6505 Burleson
Road, 78744. May require local travel depending on business needs.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required
background checks to meet assigned location eligibility
requirements. Key Responsibilities Establish trusting relationships
with employees and maintain consistent communication to support
retention. Monitor employee progress and identify indicators that
support long-term employment success. Collaborate within Goodwill
Central Texas to connect employees with training, development
programs, and supportive services. Partner with business line
management to promote employee engagement and operational success.
Observe and evaluate workplace behaviors that may impact retention
and provide coaching as needed. Assist employees in identifying and
accessing services to achieve individualized career goals. Develop
and document short- and long-term career plans; track progress and
support transitions to next steps. Coordinate internal and external
resources to promote employment stability. Intervene ethically and
effectively in crisis situations and develop appropriate follow-up
plans. Provide financial coaching support as needed (budgeting,
savings, credit repair, banking options, decision-making skills).
Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in ECM and other
required databases. Complete client screening and intake processes.
Provide field insights to support organizational alignment and
program improvement. Identify opportunities for growth within the
Employee Services Program. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have
supervisory responsibilities. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s
degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Vocational
Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Counseling, or related
field required. Minimum one year of experience providing case
management services to underserved populations. Strong written and
verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Windows-based computer
applications. Knowledge of client assessment, community resource
coordination, career planning principles, employability skills, and
crisis intervention. Experience serving marginalized populations
(e.g., homelessness, re-entry, opportunity youth, disability).
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Scheduling
flexibility to fit the needs of the business. Preferred
Qualifications Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology,
Counseling, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, or
Human Services. Professional licensure (e.g., LMSW, CRC, LPC,
LMFT). Bilingual (Spanish, ASL, Arabic, Farsi). Ability to conduct
and/or translate training sessions bilingually. Texas Driver’s
License, good driving record, liability insurance, and reliable
vehicle for work-related travel (particularly for Commercial
Services assignment). Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of
sitting and computer use. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. Frequent
walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
communicating. Ability to manage moderate levels of stress. Close
vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
