Phlebotomist functions as an integral member of the team and is
responsible for performing phlebotomy and other lab tests in a
manner that maintains high quality patient care. Order Requisitions
: The phlebotomist verifies all incoming lab orders to ensure they
are accurate and complete. This involves reviewing patient
information, test requests, and any special instructions to prevent
errors. The phlebotomist prioritizes and schedules these orders,
ensuring that tests are performed promptly, and results are
delivered within the expected turnaround time. They also
communicate with Primary Care Provider (PCP) offices to confirm
orders and request faxes from outside facilities when needed,
addressing discrepancies and clarifying details to maintain proper
order flow. Blood Draw (Phlebotomy) : The phlebotomist is
responsible for drawing blood using venipuncture, finger pricks, or
other techniques, always ensuring correct patient identification.
They explain the procedure to patients, answer any questions, and
provide comfort to ease any anxiety before performing the blood
draw. All blood samples are accurately labeled, with patient
details and time of the draw recorded for proper tracking Lab
Processing : The phlebotomist handles the preparation, processing,
and analysis of biological samples. This includes ensuring blood
coagulation (30-minute wait), centrifuging blood samples (15-minute
spin for serum, 6 samples at a time), and preparing serum in the
correct vials for submission to Quest. Additionally, they manage
the collection and transfer of urine and stool samples, ensuring
proper storage and labeling, and monitor temperature requirements
for certain samples (room, refrigerated, or frozen). They also
ensure that all drop-off samples from outside sites are correctly
stored, labeled, and ready for pickup by Quest. The phlebotomist
plays a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of
accuracy, efficiency, and patient care throughout the entire
process—from order requisition to sample processing and blood
collection. Primary Responsibilities: Obtain blood specimens by
skin puncture, venipuncture in patient populations ranging from
newborn, pediatric to adult and geriatric Follow all laboratory
procedures and protocols Accurately enter patient information and
tests into the computer using Epic and accurately label specimens
after the patient is drawn but before patient leaves Deliver
specimens to analytical area Work as a team member within the
laboratory department. Communicate professionally with patients,
providers and co-workers Perform other related duties as assigned
Adhere to the Phlebotomy Clinical Laboratory Standards When needed,

you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: High school
diploma, GED or equivalent Current State of Texas Phlebotomy
Certification Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA)
This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of
immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus,
Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity,
documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of
disease Preferred Qualifications: 1 years of experience working as
a Phlebotomist Previous experience at a multi-specialty clinic or
acute care facility, and experience with a laboratory computer
system The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour
based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors
including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work
